The stage is set for another thrilling edition of the Tojemarine Invitational International Handball Championship following the release of the official groupings for the 2026 tournament.
The groups were unveiled in Lagos by the championship's Media Coordinator, Cosmos Chukwuemeka, ahead of the competition scheduled to hold from July 15 to July 24.
The annual championship, which has become one of the foremost handball tournaments in West Africa, will feature top clubs from Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin, further strengthening sporting relationships across the sub-region.
Host club and reigning 2024 Nigeria Premier Handball League champions, Tojemarine Handball Club, headline Group A of the men's competition. The Lagos-based side will battle Energie Handball Club of Cotonou, Ghana Police Handball Club, Delta Force Handball Club, and Rima Strikers HC for places in the knockout stage.
Group B promises equally intense action, with Benin Republic clubs Adidja Handball Club and ASPAC Club drawn alongside Ghana's Kalibi HC. Former Nigerian champions Niger United Handball Club and De Defenders complete the group.
In the women's category, Group A features Soof Handball Club, Ghana Prisons Handball Club, ASPAC Handball Club, and Plateau Peacocks Handball Club, setting up a series of highly competitive encounters.
Group B consists of Flowers Handball Club of Cotonou, Rima Queens Handball Club, Seasiders Babes Handball Club, and Ghana Police, with all four teams targeting qualification to the latter stages of the tournament.
Chukwuemeka noted that the championship remains dedicated to advancing handball development across the region by providing a platform for elite competition and talent exposure.
He added that beyond the on-court action, the tournament continues to foster stronger partnerships among participating nations while creating valuable opportunities for athletes to showcase their abilities.
The official release of the groupings marks the final countdown to one of West Africa's premier handball events. With elite clubs from Nigeria, Ghana, and Benin ready to compete, fans can expect intense encounters and top-tier sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
