Wales Hand Rhys Carre First Start in Over Two Years as Rees-Zammit Returns for Argentina Test

Posted : 07 November 2025

Wales have named prop Rhys Carre in the starting lineup for Sunday’s Test against Argentina, marking his first international start since 2023, while returning star Louis Rees-Zammit is set to make his comeback from the bench.

Head coach Steve Tandy, announcing his first squad since taking charge, has made seven changes to the side that ended an 18-match losing streak with a win over Japan in July.

Carre, who starts at loosehead prop, was previously ruled ineligible for national selection under the Welsh Rugby Union’s 25-cap rule for players based outside Wales. With only 20 caps, the 26-year-old fell short of the requirement, but the restriction has been temporarily lifted to allow his recall as Wales embark on a new chapter under Tandy.

Rees-Zammit, meanwhile, is set for his first Wales appearance since the 2023 Rugby World Cup, following a brief NFL stint with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. The 24-year-old returned to rugby in August, joining the Bristol Bears, where he has already made several appearances this season.

Among the replacements, Olly Cracknell could make his Wales debut at age 31, having been drafted in as a late replacement for the injured Taulupe Faletau.

Wales face a demanding November schedule, with matches against Japan, New Zealand, and South Africa all set to take place in Cardiff.
