Visma-Lease a Bike Turn to Davide Piganzoli to Support Vingegaard’s Tour de France Challenge

Posted : 24 June 2026

Visma-Lease a Bike have included rising Italian climber Davide Piganzoli in their Tour de France lineup, entrusting the 23-year-old with a key support role as Jonas Vingegaard pursues another title. The Danish star will be aiming to end Tadej Pogacar’s recent dominance and secure a third Tour de France crown when the race begins on July 4.

Piganzoli earned his place in the squad after a series of strong performances this season. His impressive display at the Giro d’Italia, where he played a significant role in supporting Vingegaard during the mountain stages, was followed by overall victory at the Route d’Occitanie. The young Italian expressed his excitement after being selected, describing the opportunity as a special moment in his career.

The decision comes after a setback for Visma, with Paris-Roubaix champion Wout van Aert unavailable due to an elbow infection. Team sports director Marc Reef acknowledged Van Aert’s absence as a major loss, highlighting the Belgian’s influence during previous Grand Tour successes. However, Reef praised Piganzoli’s recent development and believes he has shown the qualities needed to make a difference in the mountains alongside Vingegaard.

Visma’s eight-rider roster also includes experienced climber Sepp Kuss, American teammate Matteo Jorgenson, French rider Bruno Armirail, Belgian Victor Campenaerts, Norwegian newcomer Per Strand Hagenes and Italian Edoardo Affini. Together, they will form the support group around Vingegaard as the team targets overall victory.

Vingegaard enters the race with an exceptional record in Grand Tours. Since his debut in a three-week race in 2020, he has consistently finished among the sport’s elite and recently completed a sweep of Grand Tour victories. Despite finishing runner-up to Pogacar in the last two editions of the Tour de France, Visma remain focused on reclaiming cycling’s most prestigious prize.

Reef made the team’s ambitions clear, stating that with Vingegaard leading the squad, the objective is straightforward: winning the Tour de France.
