Visma Hit by Bike Theft After Vingegaard Wins La Vuelta Stage Two

Posted : 25 August 2025

Cycling outfit Visma Lease a Bike have been struck by misfortune off the road, with several of their bikes stolen overnight following Jonas Vingegaard’s victory in stage two of the Vuelta a España.

The Danish star powered to victory on Sunday, securing the overall leader’s red jersey after a demanding stage raced in Italy. But celebrations were cut short when the team discovered their mechanics’ truck had been broken into, leaving them scrambling to prepare for stage three—a 134.6km route to Ceres in the Piedmont region.

“Last night, our mechanics’ truck was broken into and several bikes were stolen,” the team confirmed. “Our staff are working hard to ensure everything is ready for the next stage. Police have opened an investigation into the incident.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the theft amounted to 18 bikes worth around €250,000 ($292,000). Other teams staying at the same hotel, including Movistar and Lidl-Trek, were reportedly unaffected.

Visma’s woes did not end there. On Monday, the team also announced that Axel Zingle would withdraw from the race following injuries sustained in Sunday’s chaotic finale.

The French rider twice dislocated his shoulder after being brought down in a crash involving Vingegaard near the base of the final climb. Though Zingle courageously finished the stage, team doctors later ruled him unfit to continue.

What should have been a triumphant day for Visma has instead turned into a logistical and emotional challenge, as the team balances protecting Vingegaard’s overall lead with rebuilding their setup under difficult circumstances.
