VIP Spikers have signed Veronica Gyamfi, pledging continued support for her recovery after she sustained a career-threatening injury during the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League.
Gyamfi was unveiled on Saturday, October 24, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The ceremony was conducted by Samuel Onikeku, Head of Sports at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
She sustained the injury while representing Wikki during last season’s competition, raising concerns about her future in competitive volleyball.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the president of Vipers and Partners VC, popularly known as VIP Spikers, sponsored her surgery at Dala Orthopedic Hospital in Kano, where she received treatment for two weeks.
Following the surgery, Gyamfi began physiotherapy at the 44 Military Reference Hospital in Kaduna as she works towards a possible return to competitive volleyball.
During her unveiling, VIP Spikers presented her with a club-branded jersey and a pair of ASICS canvas shoes as part of the support extended to her.
The club is also supporting her education at Kaduna State Polytechnic while she continues her rehabilitation, demonstrating its commitment to her welfare beyond the volleyball court.
The intervention highlights the importance of providing injured athletes with medical care, rehabilitation and educational support, particularly when serious injuries threaten their sporting careers.
