The United States Tennis Association (USTA) has announced an $800 million plan to modernize the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, including a comprehensive renovation of the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium and the addition of a state-of-the-art player performance center.
The upgrades aim to enhance both player amenities and the fan experience, with work scheduled in phases to ensure that the 2025 and 2026 editions of the US Open are not disrupted. The full transformation is expected to be completed in time for the 2027 tournament.
According to USTA CEO Lew Sherr, the investment will preserve and enhance the legacy of Arthur Ashe Stadium, originally built over 25 years ago, ensuring its relevance and excellence for the next generation. He emphasized the importance of providing athletes with world-class facilities that combine optimal performance conditions with elevated levels of comfort and luxury off the court.
The project represents the largest single financial commitment in the history of the US Open and will be funded entirely by the USTA without any public or taxpayer money.
Plans for the Arthur Ashe Stadium include a new grand entrance, the addition of 2,000 courtside seats, and the creation of two new luxury suite levels. Fans can also expect improved concourses, upgraded dining and retail spaces, and an overall refreshed look that retains the venue’s historic stature while boosting its functionality.
Meanwhile, the new $250 million two-story player center will feature expanded fitness zones, modernized locker rooms with spa-like amenities, and enhanced dining spaces.
This latest redevelopment follows a previous $600 million overhaul completed in 2018, which introduced the retractable-roof Louis Armstrong Stadium. With this new initiative, the USTA continues its commitment to maintaining the US Open as one of the premier sporting events globally, blending tradition with innovation in the heart of Queens, New York.
