The USGA has confirmed the final lineup for the 2025 US Open, solidifying the 156-man field with three players gaining exemptions and five alternates added. Among the late entries is New Zealand's Ryan Fox, who secured a spot after climbing into the top 60 of the Official World Golf Ranking, thanks to his recent win at the RBC Canadian Open.
That victory propelled Fox to a career-best No. 32 in the world and marked his second win in four events, securing his place in the major at Oakmont Country Club.
Cameron Young and Bud Cauley also earned exemptions by moving into the top 60 in the world rankings, having initially qualified through the Columbus, Ohio final qualifier.
The USGA's decision to include the highest-ranked players not previously exempt ensured that both men, ranked 56th and 58th respectively, avoided having to rely on alternate spots. Their recent form and rankings shift reflect the competitiveness and volatility of the qualification process leading up to a major.
Additionally, the USGA filled remaining spots by adding five alternates: Chase Johnson, Eric Cole, Doug Ghim, and Japan’s Takumi Kanaya and Riki Kawamoto.
Johnson and Cole had narrowly missed out in a 5-for-1 playoff in Columbus that also featured big names like Rickie Fowler and Max Homa. While Johnson brings limited PGA Tour experience, Cole enters with momentum as the 2022-23 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year, further intensifying the depth and unpredictability of the upcoming championship.
