The opening-round tee times for this year’s US Open have produced several high-profile groupings, with some of golf’s biggest names set to share the spotlight at Shinnecock Hills in New York.
Six-time major champion Rory McIlroy, who previously lifted the US Open trophy in 2011, will begin his campaign alongside Ryder Cup teammates Tommy Fleetwood and Ludvig Åberg during the first two rounds. The trio forms one of the tournament’s most anticipated groups as they aim to make a strong start in the season’s third major.
World number one Scottie Scheffler will also attract significant attention when he tees off alongside defending champion J.J. Spaun. Scheffler enters the tournament with a chance to complete the career Grand Slam, a feat achieved by only six golfers in history, should he secure victory this week.
Among the later starters on Thursday is England’s Aaron Rai, who arrives with confidence following his recent PGA Championship triumph. Rai will play alongside fellow major winners Collin Morikawa and Jason Day in another highly competitive group.
Former US Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick, who claimed the title in 2022, has been paired with two-time winner Bryson DeChambeau and Norway’s Viktor Hovland. Their grouping is expected to be one of the most closely watched during the afternoon session.
Elsewhere, former champions Justin Rose, Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm will also play together, bringing together three players with proven US Open success. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre is part of the later wave of starters as he looks to challenge for his first major championship.
