The UK Home Office, Clean Herts Community (CHC), TAG International, and the British High Commission in Lagos have launched a two-month community sport initiative.
The programme aims to strengthen communities against crime and empower vulnerable youths across three Lagos councils: Ajeromi, Ikorodu, and Ifako Ijaiye. Running from September to November 2025, it will feature boxing, football coaching, life skills training, and mentoring delivered by local coaches.
According to the British High Commission, the initiative is designed “to build confidence, develop skills, and create positive opportunities for young people.” It builds on CHC’s first international giveback in March 2025, which showcased boxing, football, and digital skills among Lagos youths.
Speaking at the launch in EliteBox Gym, British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Field emphasized the importance of international and local partnerships in providing Nigerian youths with tools to thrive and strengthening communities against crime.
CHC Director, Nikita Joshua, noted that sport has the power to transform lives by instilling discipline, offering structure, and creating alternatives to crime. Adekunle Lamikanra, Coordinator of the Ikorodu Crime Prevention Partnership, highlighted the role of mentoring sessions in guiding young people away from negative influences such as cultism and cybercrime.
The initiative forms part of the wider Serious and Organised Crime (SOC) Prevention Programme funded by the UK Home Office and implemented in Nigeria by TAG International.
