Wiebes Dominates Stage 2 as UAE Tour Women Hits High Speed

Dubai played host to a thrilling second stage of the UAE Tour Women, part of the 2026 UCI Cycling Women’s World Tour, as the peloton sped through the city in fast and competitive conditions. The 145‑kilometer flat stage saw an early breakaway reeled in before a high‑speed finish, where sprinting sensation Lorena Wiebes again proved untouchable.

Wiebes timed her charge perfectly in a frantic bunch sprint, extending her impressive winning form with back‑to‑back victories after also taking Stage 1. The Dutch sprinter distanced her rivals and comfortably crossed the line ahead of Chiara Consonni and Nienke Veenhoven, asserting her dominance in the early season.

The terrain offered little respite from the high pace, and the finale was not without incident. A crash in the final kilometers disrupted the bunch, but riders regrouped to contest a hectic sprint, where tactical positioning and team lead‑outs played a decisive role.

 With powerful performances from the teams and a fiercely contested stage, the UAE Tour Women continues to underline its growing prestige in the WorldTour calendar.

Off the racecourse, organisers and local authorities implemented significant road closures across key Dubai routes to ensure athlete safety and facilitate the smooth running of the event, drawing attention to the logistical efforts behind hosting a major international cycling competition.

Canadian rider Maggie Coles‑Lyster also made headlines with a strong return to form, riding competitively in the bunch and showing resilience following a recent surgical setback, further highlighting the depth of talent among the start list.

Stage 3 promises new challenges as the tour moves onward, with riders and teams seeking to carve out advantages in the overall standings and set the tone for the rest of the Women’s World Tour season.
