U-19 ICC World Cup Qualifiers: Junior Yellow Greens keep hopes alive with Rwanda win

Nigeria’s Junior Yellow Greens have strengthened their bid for progress in the U-19 ICC World Cup qualifiers after producing another impressive performance to defeat hosts Rwanda by seven wickets.

The victory saw the Nigerian youngsters maintain their winning momentum after recovering from their opening defeat to Uganda, giving the team renewed confidence as the qualification race gathers pace.

Rwanda struggled to cope with Nigeria’s disciplined bowling attack after electing to bat first, eventually being bowled out for 79 runs in 23.1 overs.

The Junior Yellow Greens then made light work of the modest target, reaching 84 runs for the loss of three wickets in just 15.2 overs to complete a comfortable seven-wicket victory.

Nigeria’s bowlers set the tone for the emphatic result by restricting the hosts to a low total, before the batting unit completed the job with an assured chase.

The result represents Nigeria’s second consecutive victory following the opening-day setback against Uganda and keeps the Junior Yellow Greens firmly in contention as they pursue qualification for the next stage of the U-19 ICC World Cup.

With the campaign still ongoing, the Nigerian youngsters will now look to build on their recent form and maintain the consistency required to secure their place in the next phase of the competition.
