U-18 Beach Volleyball: Nigeria eye title after reaching Senegal S/finals

Nigeria’s U-18 women’s beach volleyball team have moved a step closer to the championship at the 2026 African U18 Beach Volleyball Development Cup in Senegal after securing a place in the semifinals.

The young Nigerian side continued their impressive unbeaten campaign on Wednesday with a straight-set victory over Mozambique, winning 21-15, 21-17 to maintain their strong momentum in the competition.

Nigeria controlled the encounter with a disciplined tactical display, combining effective attacking play with solid defensive organisation to deny Mozambique any opportunity to force a deciding set.

Head coach John Iwerima expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, noting that the players were responding positively to the demands of international competition.

He said the tournament was providing an important platform for the young athletes to gain valuable exposure and experience that would prepare them for higher levels of competition.

According to Iwerima, winning the tournament would not only enhance the players’ individual profiles but also represent a significant achievement for the Nigeria Volleyball Federation and a boost to the development of beach volleyball in the country.

With their unbeaten record intact, the Nigerian girls will now focus on the semifinal challenge, where they will seek another victory to advance to the final and move within touching distance of the coveted title.
