Tour de France Femmes 2027 to Open in UK with Historic London Team Time Trial Finale

Posted : 22 April 2026

The 2027 edition of the Tour de France Femmes will begin with a demanding British Grand Départ, culminating in a historic team time trial through central London, organisers confirmed on Monday. It will mark the first time both the men’s and women’s Tour de France start in the same foreign country in the same year, underlining the UK’s growing role in international cycling.

The opening three-day programme is designed to test riders from the outset, combining challenging terrain in northern England with a high-profile finale in the capital. After two tough opening stages in the Peak District, the race will head to London for an 18-kilometre team time trial finishing on The Mall, a first for the women’s Tour in this format.

Race director Marion Rousse described London as a fitting stage for a landmark finish, highlighting the opportunity to showcase the city and the atmosphere of the event. She noted the UK’s strong history of supporting the Tour and emphasised the importance of elevating women’s cycling on a global platform.

The first stage will run from Leeds to Manchester over a hilly 85-kilometre route, while the second stage from Manchester to Sheffield will feature significant climbing, including almost 3,000 metres of elevation gain. Iconic ascents such as Snake Pass and the steep Cote de Jenkin Road in Sheffield are expected to play a decisive role, recalling dramatic moments from the 2014 men’s Tour de France Grand Départ in Yorkshire.

Although full details of the London team time trial route will be revealed later, organisers anticipate record-breaking crowds across all three days, with expectations that it could become the most attended women’s sporting event ever held in Britain.

Project director Lucy Jones said the 2027 edition aims to surpass the impact of 2014, describing the finale in London as a major celebration of the sport and its growing popularity.

The announcement comes as preparations also continue for the 2027 men’s Tour de France Grand Départ, which will begin in Edinburgh before routes through northern England and Wales.
