Tony Unuavworho emerged as the overall winner of the third AfricaRe Golf Tournament for CEOs held at the Ikoyi Club 1938 on Friday. The competition brought together high-ranking executives and prominent golfers to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Africa Reinsurance Corporation. Unuavworho finished the day with 38 stableford points to secure the top spot on the leaderboard.
The race for the runner-up positions was closely contested among the executive field. Ancy Okoebor claimed the first runner-up trophy by finishing with 36 points. Obinna Okwoji also recorded a score of 36 points but was moved to third place following a countback. The champion expressed his gratitude to the sponsors and noted that a mix of skill and good fortune helped him clinch the title.
In the Ladies Stableford category, Olaide Adekoya delivered an impressive performance to finish in first place. She was followed by Yetunde Ojo as the runner-up, while Ifeoma Obata took the third position. Individual awards were also presented for specific technical achievements on the course. Segun Adekoya won the Men’s Longest Drive on Hole 9, and Annie Eimiakhene secured the prize in the ladies' equivalent.
The event also featured a competitive team category specifically for insurance firms. Davisther Brokers Ltd took the top honors in this section with a total of 65 stableford points. They narrowly defeated Joken Insurance Brokers, who finished just one point behind with a total of 64. Regional Director Temitope Akinowo stated that the corporation remains dedicated to supporting the Nigerian economy through such sporting initiatives.
This year’s tournament held special significance as it coincided with the corporation’s golden jubilee celebrations. Management noted that despite various economic challenges, the organization continues to foster continental development and social engagement. The high turnout of top-tier executives highlighted the growing popularity of the event within the Lagos business and sporting community. Winners were celebrated at a ceremony marking five decades of the company’s operations in Africa.
