Tom Pidcock Wins Tour of the Alps Stage 3 After “Horror Crash” Recovery

Posted : 23 April 2026

Tom Pidcock has claimed victory on stage three of the 2026 Tour of the Alps, continuing his impressive recovery just weeks after a serious crash during the Volta a Catalunya in Spain. The 26-year-old showed strong form in northern Italy, out-sprinting Tommaso Dati and Egan Bernal in a tightly contested finish in Arco.

The stage concluded with a reduced bunch sprint after a fast and tactical final section, where Pidcock positioned himself perfectly before launching a decisive burst to the line. The win marks an important milestone in his comeback, following a high-speed descent crash in March that left him shaken and forced a short break from racing.

Pidcock admitted after the race that returning to competition had been mentally challenging, explaining that the fear of another setback made his early races difficult. However, he said the victory felt especially rewarding given the setbacks he has faced in recent weeks.

The British rider, known for his descending skills and aggressive racing style, had already shown strong form earlier in the season, including a near-win at Milan–San Remo. His current performances suggest he is regaining confidence ahead of key upcoming races, including Liège–Bastogne–Liège and the Tour de France.

With this stage win, Pidcock not only reinforces his status as one of cycling’s most versatile talents but also signals a successful return from injury at a crucial point in the season.
