Tojemarine Invitational Championship Returns to Boost Handball Development in Nigeria

The organisers of the Tojemarine Invitational Handball Championship have intensified preparations for the 2026 edition of the competition, scheduled to hold from July 16 to July 25 in Lagos State.

The championship, themed “Building Champions, Inspiring Communities,” is expected to attract some of the best handball clubs, players, and enthusiasts from across Nigeria and neighbouring countries in what promises to be a thrilling celebration of the sport.

Formerly known as the Samuel Ocheho Invitational International Handball Championship, the competition will be staged at the NIS Indoor Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, and the Rowe Park Sports Centre in Yaba, Lagos.

According to the organisers, the tournament is aimed at strengthening handball development in Nigeria by creating opportunities for athletes to showcase their abilities while promoting youth participation, discipline, teamwork, and community engagement through sports.

Chief organiser and immediate past President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria, Samuel Ocheho, described the championship as a platform designed to positively impact young athletes and contribute to the growth of the game.

“Handball has given many young people opportunities, discipline, and direction. This championship is our own way of giving back to the sport and creating another platform for talents to grow,” Ocheho stated.

He added that beyond the competition itself, the organisers are committed to inspiring young talents to dream bigger and pursue excellence through sports.

“We are committed to building champions and inspiring communities through sports. Our goal is to create an environment where athletes can compete, learn, and dream bigger,” he added.

The organisers also appealed to corporate bodies, stakeholders, sports enthusiasts, and the general public to support the initiative as it continues to grow into one of the major handball tournaments in Nigeria.

Fans will also be able to follow live updates and stream matches through the club’s digital platforms during the ten-day championship in Lagos.
