Tiger Woods to Compete with Son Charlie at PNC Championship in Orlando

Posted : 11 December 2024

Tiger Woods, the former world number one, is set to return to action alongside his son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship exhibition tournament in Orlando next week. This marks their fifth appearance at the 36-hole team event, which allows the use of golf carts and features professional golfers paired with a parent or child. Woods and his son previously finished second in 2021 and tied for fifth last year, showcasing their strong partnership in this unique competition.

The 15-time major champion, who turns 49 this month, has been recovering from back surgery he underwent in September. Earlier this month, Woods admitted he was not yet ready to compete in full-scale tournaments and lacked the sharpness required for top-level play. His last competitive appearance was at The Open in July, where he missed the cut for the third consecutive major, highlighting the challenges he has faced in his comeback.

The PNC Championship will see several notable players joining the event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. Defending champions Bernhard Langer and his son Jason are among the participants, along with Vijay Singh and his son Qass. Additionally, American golfer Nelly Korda, accompanied by her father Petr, will also compete, adding further excitement to the tournament’s lineup.

This exhibition offers Woods a chance to return to the course in a less demanding format while sharing the spotlight with his son. For fans, it is a rare opportunity to watch the golfing legend in action again, even as he navigates the challenges of injury recovery and advancing age. The event promises to be a celebration of golf across generations, drawing attention to the bond between parents and their children in the sport.
