Tiger Woods Focuses on Recovery for 2025 Season After Injury-Shortened 2024 Campaign

Posted : 03 December 2024

Tiger Woods is focused on getting his body back in shape for next year’s golf season, despite another injury that has curtailed his 2024 campaign.

Speaking at the Hero World Challenge in Albany, Bahamas, Woods shared his continued passion for competing and his determination to recover from a nerve impingement in his lower back, which required surgery in September.

He had not played since July and was initially expected to participate in the event he has hosted since 2000, but announced last month that he would not be competing.

Reflecting on this year’s struggles, Woods admitted that his performance was below his usual standards. He described 2024 as a year he "had to toss away" due to a lack of preparation for the major championships, where he missed the cut at both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

Woods also withdrew from the Genesis Invitational in February after one round and finished 60th at the Masters, a tournament where he had previously claimed his 15th major title.

Looking ahead, Woods expressed hope for a better year in 2025, believing that his recent surgery will help him regain his physical strength.

"Hopefully next year will be better, I'll be physically stronger and better," he said, acknowledging that the procedure had been beneficial and would serve as a foundation for his recovery.

Woods has been dealing with multiple injuries for years, which have limited his competitive schedule, but he remains committed to giving himself the best chance to return to form.

During his press conference, Woods also addressed the ongoing negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Tour, which have been stalled for several months.

He emphasized the importance of these talks for the future of the game, stating that while the process may be challenging, it would ultimately result in a better product for fans and players alike. "Some eggs are going to be knocked over," he said, "but in the end, we’re going to get a product that's better for all the fans and all the players."
