The final whistle signaled a continental double for Nigeria, firmly establishing the country as the new powerhouse of African flag football. This landmark achievement goes far beyond a single tournament win—it marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s sports history and signals the nation's emergence as a flag football giant.
At the heart of this success is the Showtime Flag Football League, which produced most of the players and coaches that formed the backbone of both national teams. Showtime’s unwavering commitment to professionalism, structure, and grassroots development has elevated the standard of play in Nigeria to internationally competitive levels.
Speaking after the final, Azeez Amida, Chairman of the Showtime Flag Football League, reflected on the emotional victory:
“What a moment for Nigeria. To see both our male and female teams rise as champions of Africa is deeply emotional. It proves that our years of investment in talent and structure are bearing fruit.”
Amida also extended heartfelt gratitude to the National Sports Commission (NSC) for its support, saying:
“I want to especially thank Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the NSC, and Director General Bukola Olopade, for their unwavering support and belief in flag football. Their presence, guidance, and partnership have been instrumental in helping the sport reach this level.”
With both the men’s and women’s titles secured, attention now turns toward establishing a national flag football federation, a cause Amida continues to champion. As Nigeria leads Africa in both performance and infrastructure, the need for a unified governing body has never been more urgent. Tonight, Nigeria didn’t just win two championships—they announced their continental dominance and lit the path forward for the sport across Africa.
