Posted : 15 February 2024

The Nigeria U-18 boys' handball team has resumed an intensive camp in Lagos ahead of the 2024 IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase in Ghana.

The IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase will be held in Accra from February 20th to 24th, 2024. It will also serve as a qualifier for the Men’s Youth (U-19) World Championship.

The head coach of the Nigeria U-18 boys, Emeka Nnamani, has invited 18 players who are presently undergoing preparations at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Yaba, Lagos.

Players such as Kareem Farouk from Tojemarine Academy, Yusuf Sulaiman of Rima Strikers, and Mohammed Mustapha of Confluence Stars are part of the under-18 men's national team.

Nnamani said that the players will ensure the country retains the title. He lauded the visionary leadership of Sam Ocheho-led Handball Federation of Nigeria board for investing heavily in handball at the junior level.

Nigeria’s U-18 team will be playing in a round-robin competition at the 2024 IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 Phase alongside Benin Republic and host Ghana.

The Nigerian teams will begin their campaign on February 20, 2023, as the U-18 team faces Benin Republic. Nigeria is the champions of the Youth IHF Trophy African Continental Championship.
