Team Nigeria Targets Gold on Day 2 of African School Games

Team Nigeria is set for a thrilling Day 2 of athletics at the ongoing African School Games in Algeria, with athletes competing in seven finals.

 

In the highly anticipated girls’ 100m final, Nigeria will be represented by Miracle Ezechukwu and Rosemary Nwankwo. Both were standout performers in the semifinals and the only athletes to run sub-12 seconds, clocking 11.83s and 11.72s respectively.

 

The 100m hurdles final will feature Nigeria’s Chinazor Rita Ekwaeme and Bernice Onoriode, who are strong contenders for podium finishes.

 

In the girls’ 400m final, Jacinter Andrew enters with one of the fastest qualifying times of 56.92s, setting up a tightly contested race.

 

On the boys’ side, Jesulayomi Ogundijo and Faye Perfect will compete in the 400m final after impressive semifinal runs. In the boys’ 100m, Akolo will line up against a competitive field, having won his semifinal heat in 10.93 seconds.

 

Moving from the track to the taekwondo mat, Team Nigeria opened its campaign with two bronze medals on Day 1. David Ibokette claimed bronze in the 55kg category, while Unique Umeh also secured bronze in the 49kg category. Both athletes fought bravely but were narrowly defeated in the semifinals by Algerian opponents.

 

Team Nigeria also added two bronze medals in athletics on Day 1. Judith Ukandu earned bronze in the girls’ shot put, while Mohammed Jimoh secured third place in the boys’ long jump.
