Posted : 10 April 2026

Nigeria’s U-18 and U-20 men’s handball teams have advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 in Lomé, following commanding victories over their respective opponents.

The U-18 team delivered an emphatic performance with a resounding 41–19 triumph over Benin Republic.

The defending champions in the youth category dominated proceedings from the outset, combining clinical attacking play with a well-organised defence to overwhelm their opponents and secure a place in the last four.

The result further reinforces the team’s impressive form in the tournament, underlining their status as one of the leading contenders for the title.

Similarly, the U-20 side produced a commanding display to defeat Ivory Coast 28–10.

Nigeria took early control of the encounter, establishing a 10–5 lead at halftime before delivering a dominant second-half performance to seal a comprehensive victory.

Both teams have now demonstrated strong intent and quality as they progress to the knockout stage of the competition, organised by the International Handball Federation.

With their semi-final spots confirmed, focus now shifts to the decisive phase of the tournament, where Nigeria will aim to maintain their unbeaten run and secure qualification for the continental stage.

The dominant performances by both the U-18 and U-20 squads have solidified Nigeria's position as a powerhouse in regional handball. As the competition enters the semi-final stage, the teams remain focused on clinching the top honors in Lomé. Their clinical execution and tactical discipline serve as a strong signal to their upcoming opponents in the quest for the trophy.
