Team Nigeria Begins Early Preparations for 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup

Posted : 25 June 2025

Nigeria’s senior men’s cricket team, the Yellow Greens, has commenced early camping in Lagos ahead of a busy international schedule that includes the qualifiers for the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2025 ILT20 Cup.

The qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup are scheduled to hold in Zimbabwe from September 28 to October 4, while the main tournament will take place in India and Sri Lanka between February and March 2026. The team is also set to participate in the ILT20 Cup in Uganda from July 13 to 30.

Steve Tikolo, Head Coach and High-Performance Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, has invited 21 players to camp in preparation for these crucial competitions.

Team captain Sylvester Okpe leads a squad that includes regular names such as wicketkeeper Sulaimon Runsewe, Isaac Danladi, Daniel Ajekun, Ridwan Kareem, Peter Aho, Isaac Okpe, Chimelie Udekwe, and Prosper Useni.

Other invited players include Selim Salau, Mohammed Taiwo, Vincent Adewoye, Akhere Isesele, Solomon Chilemanya, Elijah Olaleye, Elijah Saturday, Ifeanyi Uboh, David Ankarak, Jimoh Abdulrahman, Beki Mubarak, and Elochukwu Ndubudem.

Nigeria will face stiff competition in Zimbabwe, going up against Namibia, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Botswana in the final qualification round. Only two teams from Africa will advance to the T20 World Cup.

The Yellow Greens earned their place in this decisive qualifier by topping Group B of the Africa Qualifiers last year.

As of now, 13 teams have already secured their spots for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
