Team Nigeria Begins Early Preparations for 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship

Posted : 01 July 2025

Kayode Ajilore, Head Coach of the Nigerian Women’s Beach Volleyball Team, has confirmed that early preparations will begin immediately following the team’s qualification for the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide, Australia.

Speaking in Abuja, Ajilore praised the team’s performance at the recently concluded CAVB Continental Championship in Martil, Morocco, where Nigeria finished third and earned a ticket to the world stage.

The Nigerian duo of Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa defeated Egypt 2–1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-9) to claim third place in the continental tournament.

Earlier in the competition, Nigeria:

  • Defeated Kenya 2–0 in their opener,
  • Overcame Botswana 2–0 in the second match,
  • Beat Gambia 2–1 in their third game,
  • Before falling 0–2 to Rwanda in the fourth round.

“Nigeria’s women’s beach volleyball team has now qualified for the 2025 World Championship in Adelaide, Australia, holding from November 14 to 23,” Ajilore stated.

The coach lauded the players for their dedication and determination throughout the tournament.

“I want to give glory to God for crowning our efforts with success. The players have shown the world that our African Games silver medal was no fluke.”

“They followed every instruction and were determined to qualify for the World Championship,” he added.

Ajilore emphasized that early preparations will be key to achieving strong results in Australia.

The coach extended gratitude to Musa Nimrod, President of the CAVB Beach Volleyball Commission, for his continued support and commitment to the development of beach volleyball in Nigeria.

“We thank our president, Nimrod, for believing in us and providing the platform for success.”

Ajilore also recognized the Nigeria Volleyball Federation Board (NVBF) and the Sports Secretary of the Nigeria Customs Service, Samuel Onikeku, for their support during the championship.

“Onikeku stood with us throughout the tournament, offering both financial and moral support. His presence greatly boosted the morale of the players and coaching staff.”

With momentum on their side, Team Nigeria will now shift focus to preparing adequately for the global challenge in Adelaide, as they seek to leave a mark on the world stage.
