2025 NYG Day 9: Team Delta Shines in Traditional Games

As the National Youth Games in Asaba reach their climax, Team Delta delivered impressive performances across multiple disciplines on Day Nine.

 

In traditional wrestling, Kokowa, Team Delta secured two silver medals through Okike Emmanuel in the boys’ 55kg category and Arcbone Precillia in the girls’ 50kg category.

 

Meanwhile, the male and female handball teams exited the tournament at the quarter-final stage, losing to Team Delta. In boxing, Great Joseph emerged victorious against his opponent from Team Adamawa, advancing to the semifinals and keeping hopes alive for a podium finish.

 

Team Delta also celebrated success in darts, with Favour Diaro Ketekete and Grace Akiebomo claiming gold in the Girls’ 501 Doubles event after defeating Team Plateau in a closely contested final.

 

In para powerlifting, Mabiko Cynthia Erekela delivered a powerful performance to claim gold, while Dennis Stephen Boutimi settled for silver. At the swimming pool, Gift Obodo earned her second silver medal of the Games in the girls’ 100m backstroke, and Daniel Emedionng Udo secured a bronze medal in the boys’ event.

 

In track and field, Samson Teibowei won bronze in the boys’ 1500m event, while Mikioniso Messiah earned bronze in the long jump. The mixed 4x100m relay team, comprising Faye Perfect, Godgift Allison, Godgift Bariweni, and Ebimoboere Christopher, added a silver medal to Team Delta’s athletics tally.

 

Team Delta now boasts a total of 28 medals, including 4 gold, 6 silver, and 18 bronze.
