Tadej Pogacar Triumphs at Tre Valli Varesine Ahead of Giro di Lombardia Bid

Posted : 08 October 2025

Tadej Pogacar continued his exceptional 2025 campaign with another impressive win, conquering the Tre Valli Varesine race on Tuesday as he gears up for the season’s final Monument.

Fresh from securing both the European and world titles, the Slovenian star once again demonstrated his dominance in northern Italy. Pogacar launched a decisive solo attack over 20 kilometers from the finish line on the challenging 200.3 km route, leaving his rivals behind and sealing yet another remarkable victory.

This latest triumph marks Pogacar’s 19th win of the year, and he now heads into Saturday’s Giro di Lombardia as the overwhelming favorite to make it 20. If successful, he would become the first rider in history to win the prestigious “Race of the Falling Leaves” five consecutive times.

The 27-year-old is chasing a record held by Italian legend Fausto Coppi, who also won the race five times. Additionally, Pogacar has the chance to equal the legendary Eddy Merckx’s rare feat of capturing three of cycling’s five Monuments in a single season.

Earlier this year, Pogacar claimed victories at both the Tour of Flanders and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, while finishing runner-up at Paris–Roubaix and third at Milan–San Remo. His consistency across the classics has drawn comparisons to the greatest riders in cycling history.

Merckx remains the benchmark, having achieved the triple-Monument accomplishment four times and holding a record 19 Monument wins. Pogacar, currently with nine to his name, is aiming for his 10th — a milestone that would place him third on the all-time list, behind only Merckx and Belgian icon Roger De Vlaeminck, who boasts 11.
