Tadej Pogacar Extends Dauphiné Lead with Back-to-Back Stage Wins

Posted : 15 June 2025

Tadej Pogacar continued his commanding form at the Criterium du Dauphiné by securing a second straight stage victory on Saturday, solidifying his position at the top of the general classification.

The Slovenian launched a decisive solo attack with 12km to go on the final climb of the 132km Queen Stage from Grand-Aigueblanche to Valmeinier, crossing the finish line 14 seconds ahead of his closest challenger, Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard.

Pogacar, the reigning Tour de France and world road race champion, once again showcased his dominance in the high mountains.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG rider had already taken the yellow jersey with a powerful win on stage six and now leads Vingegaard by one minute and one second going into Sunday’s final stage.

Reflecting on his performance, Pogacar said he had aimed to maintain a strong but measured pace on the climb due to the heat and length. “Today Jonas was really strong. I did not want to go too deep myself,” he explained. “Luckily, I had enough time to ease up in the last kilometres and recovered.”

Florian Lipowitz of Germany finished third on the day but remains more than two minutes behind Pogacar in the overall standings. Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel fell further off the pace, now trailing Pogacar by over three minutes in fourth place.

The race concludes with another challenging mountain stage on Sunday, covering 133.3km from Val-d'Arc to Plateau du Mont-Cenis, offering one final test before the Tour de France begins on July 5.
