The Sunshine Ladies Tour has announced an increase in prize money for this week’s Platinum Ladies Open, set to take place from Wednesday to Friday at Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate.
Titan Secure contributed an additional R650,000 to the tournament fund, raising the total prize money from R1.2 million to R1.5 million. Organizers also introduced a R10,000 bonus for the professional who posts the lowest round by the conclusion of the event.
Danielle du Toit enters the tournament as one of the favourites after narrowly missing a consecutive victory at last week’s Jabra Ladies Classic, where she lost to France’s Lois Lau in a playoff.
Lau, who claimed her first professional win by defeating Du Toit and Scotland’s Lorna McClymont, expressed excitement about competing in South Africa for the first time.
She said, “This is my first time on the Sunshine Ladies Tour and in South Africa, so I have no idea what the course will look like, but I am very positive and really confident in my game.”
A competitive field is expected, including 2025 defending champion Kiera Floyd, along with Nobuhle Dlamini and Nadia van der Westhuizen, who finished fifth and 10th respectively in the Jabra Ladies Classic.
Earlier this season, Germany’s Cellina Sattelkau claimed back-to-back victories at the NTT Data Pro-Am and the SuperSport Ladies Challenge, before Du Toit became the first South African winner of the season at the Standard Bank Ladies Open in Cape Town.
This week promises another high-level showdown at Blair Atholl as players vie for the enhanced prize fund and the new lowest-round bonus.
