Stuart Bingham staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Mark Williams 6-5 and progress to the second round of the Victorian Plumbing UK Championship in York. Williams had appeared to be in control, leading 5-2, but Bingham, who struggled early in the match, mounted an impressive recovery to edge out the three-time World Champion.

Despite both players having an uncharacteristic start, Bingham's late surge, including two strong runs of 79 and 82, secured him a dramatic victory in the final frame.

The match began with both players missing key pots, but it was Williams who seized the advantage, top-scoring with 72 and appearing set to close out the win at 5-2.

However, Bingham refused to give up, and in the eighth frame, he mounted a 147 attempt, scoring 57 before missing the black.

Williams was left requiring snookers, and despite having a chance to force a respot, Bingham took advantage of a crucial long-range green pot to stay alive in the match at 5-3.

Bingham continued to fight, and his determined play in the later frames turned the match in his favor. With breaks of 79 and 82, he leveled the score and forced a decider.

In the final frame, Bingham's momentum proved decisive as he comfortably sealed the win with breaks of 32 and 36, completing a stunning comeback from 5-2 down.

Reflecting on his victory, Bingham admitted he was more surprised than anyone by the result, but his patience and belief in his game ultimately saw him through.

In another exciting match, Zhang Anda advanced to the next round with a 6-3 victory over Lei Peifan. Zhang made history by recording the 21st maximum break in UK Championship history during the fourth frame, leveling the match at 2-2.

The 147 break put him in contention for the £15,000 high break prize, and if he records another maximum in future events, he could win a £147,000 bonus. Although Lei kept the match alive by winning a frame after Zhang miscued on the penultimate ball, Zhang sealed the victory with a break of 79 in the following frame.

Zhang expressed his satisfaction with his performance, particularly noting that the 147 break was especially meaningful in such a prestigious event. After a slow start, Zhang capitalized on opportunities presented by Lei, and his skillful break in the fourth frame demonstrated his potential to make an impact at the tournament. With his victory, Zhang advances in the UK Championship, where he hopes to continue his strong form.
