Strong finish lifts Nigeria Customs to 9th at CAVB Championship

Posted : 23 April 2026

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) ended their run at the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championship on a high, delivering a commanding straight-sets victory over OMD to seal a 9th-place finish in Cairo.

After a mixed tournament, NCS showed renewed purpose in the placement decider, taking control early and never letting go.

Their aggressive net play and solid defensive structure proved too much for OMD, as they cruised to a 25-14 win in the opening set.

The Nigerian side maintained the same intensity in the second set, once again overpowering their opponents 25-14 with consistent attacking play and minimal errors.

OMD offered more resistance in the third set, but NCS remained composed at key moments, closing it out 25-20 to complete an emphatic 3-0 sweep and confirm their position in the final standings.

Elsewhere, the battle for 7th place produced one of the most dramatic encounters of the placement round. Cameroon’s MKE staged a remarkable comeback to edge Ghana’s KSC 3-2 in a pulsating five-set clash.

KSC looked on course for victory after taking a 2-1 lead, but MKE responded with resilience, dominating the fourth set before holding their nerve in the decisive fifth to secure a 15-10 win and clinch 7th place.

KSC, despite a spirited display, settled for 8th position as the placement fixtures concluded with high-intensity performances across the board.

The tournament wrap-up highlights the competitive depth of African women's volleyball as teams fought hard for every final ranking. For Nigeria Customs Service, the emphatic final victory provides a positive foundation to build upon for future continental outings.
