Star-Studded Pairings Announced for Opening Round of 125th US Open at Oakmont

Posted : 10 June 2025

The USGA revealed the tee times and groupings for Thursday’s first round of the 125th US Open at Oakmont, showcasing a series of high-profile pairings. Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, fresh off his PGA Championship win, will begin his afternoon round at 1:25 p.m. alongside Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa.

Meanwhile, second-ranked Rory McIlroy will take an early start off the 10th tee at 7:40 a.m. with Justin Rose and Shane Lowry, forming a trio of major champions. Defending US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau is scheduled for a 7:29 a.m. start, grouped with Xander Schauffele and Spain's Jose Luis Ballester, the reigning US Amateur champion.

Major winners are heavily featured across the day's schedule. Immediately following DeChambeau’s group, past champions Wyndham Clark, Gary Woodland, and Matt Fitzpatrick will tee off at 7:40 a.m. Another headline group will start at 8:02 a.m. from the 10th tee, featuring three Open champions—Phil Mickelson, Brian Harman, and Cam Smith.

Mickelson, who turns 55 on Monday, still seeks a US Open title to complete the career Grand Slam. The afternoon lineup includes more notable names, with Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Min Woo Lee scheduled for 1:03 p.m., and Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson going off the 10th tee at 1:14 p.m.

Rounding out the elite field are England’s Tyrrell Hatton, South Korea’s Im Sung-jae, and Austria’s Sepp Straka, teeing off at 1:25 p.m. from the 10th. Notably, amateur Matt Vogt, a 34-year-old dentist from Indianapolis, will hit the tournament’s first shot at 6:45 a.m. after qualifying for his debut major. With a slate featuring multiple past champions and current top-ranked players, Oakmont promises a competitive and dramatic opening to one of golf’s most prestigious events.
