The GolfRSA International Amateur Championships witnessed a thrilling "moving day," with South Africa's men and women dominating the Team Competition titles. In the men’s event, Charl Barnard delivered a remarkable career-best nine-under-par 63 at Royal Johannesburg’s East Course, finishing at the top of the leaderboard.
Meanwhile, Bobbi Brown extended her lead in the women’s tournament, further strengthening Team South Africa's position across both divisions.
The South African men's team put on an impressive display, posting a nine-under 207 to secure a dominant 19-shot victory. Jordan Burnand led the charge with a 67, while Astin Arthur contributed with a 68.
Ivan Verster and Dian Kruger, who earned his cap for the competition, each shot 72s. Burnand praised the team's cohesion, stating, "We had four great guys who got along fantastically," and credited their strategy of establishing a solid lead in the first round and building from there as key to their success.
In the men's individual competition, the GolfRSA President Men’s Team made a strong comeback, overcoming a three-shot deficit to claim second place. Vuyisani Makama’s 67 at his home course was instrumental in their performance, with teammates Devon Valentine and Timothy Daniels contributing with scores of 71 and 75. Team South Africa Juniors Men finished third at seven-under, followed by Team Scotland in fourth at 10-over, and Team Réunion Men at 40-over.
The South African women’s team followed a similar path to victory, rallying from a narrow lead after the first round to establish a commanding 10-shot advantage by the second. Kesha Louw, Lisa Coetzer, and Zané Kleynhans kept up the pressure throughout, securing an eight-over 440 total to seal the win.
Coetzer’s birdie on the 18th for a closing 74 helped clinch the victory. Coetzer, reflecting on the experience, said, “We all went out and tried to put the best score on the board for ourselves and the team, and that mindset worked in our favour." The GolfRSA President Team Women’s squad finished third at 37-over.
