South Africa Crush Pakistan by 150 Runs to Regain Top Spot and Reach World Cup Semis

Posted : 22 October 2025

South Africa reclaimed the top position in the Women’s World Cup table with a dominant 150-run DLS victory over Pakistan.

South Africa surged back to the top of the Women’s World Cup standings after a commanding 150-run win over Pakistan via the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method in a rain-interrupted match in Colombo. The result not only secured the Proteas’ place in the semi-finals but also ended Pakistan’s hopes of progressing further in the tournament.

Persistent rain once again threatened to wash out play, with an early delay of more than two hours after just two overs of South Africa’s innings. The showers returned multiple times during the match, interrupting both innings, but the Proteas managed to complete a 40-over effort, compiling an imposing 312 for nine.

Despite losing Tazmin Brits for her third duck of the tournament, South Africa’s batting lineup flourished after the restart. Laura Wolvaardt anchored the innings with a fluent 90, while Sune Luus added 61 in a crucial 118-run partnership for the second wicket. Late fireworks from Marizanne Kapp (68 not out) and Nadine de Klerk (41 off 16 balls) pushed the total beyond the 300 mark, setting Pakistan an uphill task.

In response, Pakistan’s batting order crumbled under pressure. Ayabonga Khaka struck early, and Kapp tore through the middle order with three wickets in quick succession to leave Pakistan reeling at 35-4 before rain once again halted play. When the match eventually resumed with a revised target of 234 from 20 overs, Pakistan were unable to recover and were dismissed for 83-7, sealing a comprehensive defeat.

With this result, Pakistan joined Bangladesh in exiting the tournament, while South Africa climbed one point ahead of Australia and England, who will face each other next in Indore. For the Proteas, the win reinforced their title credentials and underlined their depth and composure in difficult conditions.
