South Africa Cruise, Scotland Impress as ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Day 3 Produces Key Moments

Posted : 09 February 2026

Day 3 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup delivered a mix of dominant on-field performances and notable off-field developments, as several teams began to shape the early narrative of the tournament.

South Africa produced an emphatic display against Canada in Ahmedabad, securing a comfortable 57-run victory. Led by strong batting contributions from Aiden Markram and David Miller, the Proteas posted an imposing total of 213 for 4. Their bowlers then followed up with a disciplined effort to restrict Canada to 156, sealing a comprehensive win.

In Kolkata, Scotland underlined their growing credentials with a commanding 73-run triumph over Italy. George Munsey starred with an impressive 84 as Scotland set a challenging target of 207 for 4. Italy struggled in the chase, eventually being dismissed for 134 in the face of consistent and controlled Scottish bowling.

Elsewhere, Pakistan edged past the Netherlands by three wickets in Colombo in a closely fought contest, highlighting the competitive nature of Group A and keeping the group wide open at this early stage.

Away from the pitch, attention briefly shifted to political developments surrounding the tournament. The Pakistan government reversed its earlier stance and confirmed that the national team would participate in the highly anticipated clash against India on February 15.

The decision followed discussions involving multiple cricket boards, with the Bangladesh Cricket Board also stressing the importance of full participation for the stability of international cricket.

As Day 3 concluded, the results began to bring greater clarity to the group standings, with both established teams and emerging sides making early statements of intent in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
