Simon Yates Wins Tour de France Stage 10 as Ben Healy Claims Yellow Jersey

Posted : 15 July 2025

Simon Yates delivered a brilliant solo performance to win stage 10 of the Tour de France on Bastille Day, marking another major milestone in his season. Fresh off a victory at the Giro d’Italia in June, the British rider launched a well-timed attack on the final climb of the grueling 165.3km route from Ennezat to Le Mont-Dore Puy de Sancy. Yates had been part of an early breakaway group of 28 riders, which was gradually thinned out during the stage's eight categorized climbs through the challenging terrain of the Massif Central.

As the race reached its climax, Yates pulled ahead of a strong group including Thymen Arensman, Ben Healy, Ben O’Connor, Michael Storer, and fellow Briton Joe Blackmore. Reflecting on his win, Yates said he hadn’t expected an opportunity to compete for a stage victory, as the team was focused on Jonas Vingegaard's overall ambitions. "I saw a chance and I took it. I’ve been improving every day since the start," he remarked after the finish.

Behind him, Ineos Grenadiers' Dutch climber Thymen Arensman crossed the line in second, with Ben Healy finishing third. That result propelled Healy to the top of the general classification, 29 seconds ahead of defending champion Tadej Pogacar. The 23-year-old, who was born in the West Midlands but represents Ireland, now becomes the first Irishman to wear the coveted yellow jersey since Stephen Roche’s 1987 Tour victory.

Remco Evenepoel of Belgium dropped to third overall, one minute further behind, after losing time during a late attack by Pogacar — a surge only Jonas Vingegaard was able to follow. Vingegaard now sits fourth, 1 minute and 46 seconds behind Healy.

Following his impressive ride, Healy praised his teammates for their effort and commitment throughout the day. "It was incredibly tough. My team worked so hard for me and I wanted to reward them. You don’t get many chances to take the yellow jersey, so I had to go for it," he said.

The Tour will pause for a rest day on Tuesday. Racing resumes Wednesday with a 156.8km stage around Toulouse, likely to end in a sprint finish. The first major mountain challenge in the Pyrenees comes on Thursday, with a summit finish at the ski resort of Hautacam.
