Sigrid Haugset Makes Tour de France Femmes History with Epic Solo Victory

Sigrid Haugset delivered one of the standout performances of the 2026 Tour de France Femmes by launching a remarkable long-range attack to win Stage 3 and take control of the race.

 The Uno-X Mobility rider spent 88.5 kilometres alone at the front, holding off relentless pressure from multiple world champion Lotte Kopecky to claim the stage victory in Poligny and move into the overall lead.

Her triumph also made history, as she became the first Norwegian rider to wear the Yellow Jersey in the women's Tour de France.

The demanding 156.5-kilometre stage began in Geneva and crossed into France through the Jura Mountains, featuring the challenging Col de la Faucille before a rolling route to the finish.

Haugset launched her decisive move early and maintained a relentless pace despite Kopecky's determined pursuit.

By the finish line, the Norwegian had completed one of the longest successful solo breakaways in the race's history, earning the biggest victory of her professional career.

Behind the stage winner, the leading general classification contenders focused on marking one another rather than chasing the breakaway.

Their tactical battle allowed Haugset to build an unassailable advantage, with the favourites eventually crossing the line almost three minutes later.

The race now shifts to a crucial 21-kilometre individual time trial between Gévrey-Chambertin and Dijon, where the overall contenders will have their first major opportunity to reshape the standings.
