Japan's Shuri Sakuma produced a spectacular final-round performance to capture the 2026 TOTO Japan Classic, winning by four strokes after an impressive eight-under-par 64 on Sunday.
The 23-year-old, who is ranked second on Japan's JLPGA Tour, overturned a three-shot deficit to overnight leader Aki Iwai with a remarkable display at the Taiheiyo Club's Minori Course in Omitama, near Tokyo.
Sakuma finished the tournament at 20-under-par 268, comfortably ahead of her closest challengers after recording eight birdies without dropping a shot in the final round. Six of those birdies came during her last eight holes, highlighting her outstanding finish.
Her victory marked her first LPGA Tour title and added another significant achievement to an impressive season. It was also her fifth tournament victory of the year and her second consecutive triumph on the Japanese tour.
Sakuma's success was particularly impressive considering that she began Sunday's round three shots behind Iwai. However, a strong late surge allowed her to move ahead of the field and secure the championship with a commanding four-shot advantage.
Iwai finished second on 16-under-par after carding a final-round 71. Fellow Japanese golfer Erika Hara claimed third place at 15-under, while Yuna Araki and Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol shared fourth position on 14-under-par.
The victory also gives Sakuma the opportunity to take up LPGA Tour membership, although the Japanese golfer indicated that she was still considering her options rather than making an immediate decision about her future.
Defending champion Nasa Hataoka finished tied for sixth on 13-under-par, seven strokes behind Sakuma. The Japanese star, a seven-time LPGA Tour winner, was unable to retain the title she secured in the previous edition.
Meanwhile, Thailand's world No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul endured a difficult tournament, finishing on four-under-par and well outside the leading positions.
Sakuma's triumph represents a major milestone in her career, as she claimed her first LPGA Tour title against a strong international field and further strengthened her reputation as one of Japan's leading golfers.
