Irish golfer Shane Lowry has become the first player to be traded in the TMRW Golf League (TGL), moving from The Bay GC to Boston Common Golf ahead of the 2027 season. The switch will see the 2019 Open Championship winner team up with Rory McIlroy as the technology-driven golf competition prepares for its third campaign.
Lowry spent the league’s first two seasons representing The Bay GC but will now join a Boston Common Golf lineup that includes several prominent names in professional golf. The move comes as TGL expands team rosters to five players, creating additional opportunities for the league’s franchises to strengthen their squads.
Boston Common Golf already features McIlroy, a five-time major champion, alongside United States Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, Australian star Adam Scott and Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, both of whom have won the Masters. Lowry’s arrival adds further experience and quality to the team as it pursues championship success.
Under the terms of the deal, The Bay GC will receive Boston Common Golf’s fourth selection in the upcoming draft, another future selection within the next three seasons and additional commercial considerations in exchange for Lowry.
McIlroy, who co-founded TGL alongside Tiger Woods and Mike McCarley, welcomed the opportunity to reunite with Lowry in team competition. The Northern Irishman described Lowry as a close friend and praised his competitive spirit, recalling their successful partnership at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2024.
McIlroy expressed confidence that Lowry would strengthen Boston Common Golf and said he was excited about what they could accomplish together. Lowry also welcomed the move, highlighting the prospect of playing alongside McIlroy and helping the Boston franchise compete for its first TGL championship.
The transfer follows another successful period for Lowry, who won the Irish Open in September and continues to bring considerable experience to the team. His major championship pedigree and proven record in team events make him a valuable addition as Boston prepares for the new campaign.
Elsewhere in TGL, the league is preparing to welcome expansion franchise Motor City Golf Club, which has announced five-time major champion Brooks Koepka as its first player. The addition of the Detroit-based team will take the competition to seven franchises, with each club expanding its roster from four players to five for the 2027 season.
Boston Common Golf will begin its new campaign against Los Angeles Golf Club on January 2. With Lowry joining McIlroy and the league introducing a new franchise, the upcoming season promises fresh team combinations and another chapter in TGL’s development.
