Sergio Garcia Wins LIV Golf Hong Kong, Secures Both Individual and Team Titles

Posted : 10 March 2025

Sergio Garcia delivered a stellar performance at LIV Golf Hong Kong, shooting a remarkable 7-under 63 in the final round to claim both the individual and team titles. Starting the day in a three-way tie for the lead, he quickly gained momentum with an eagle on the third hole and four consecutive birdies from the eighth to the eleventh.

He capped off his round with another birdie on the 16th, finishing at 18-under 192. His closest challengers, Paul Casey and Peter Uihlein, were unable to keep up, with Casey finishing fifth at 12 under and Uihlein settling for a tie in sixth place. Meanwhile, Dean Burmester’s impressive 62 earned him second place at 15 under, while Phil Mickelson’s strong 64 secured him third, four strokes behind Garcia.

Approaching the final hole, Garcia had a comfortable lead in the individual competition but needed to secure a par to ensure his Fireballs GC team clinched the team title over Stinger GC. He expertly handled a lengthy downhill putt on the 18th green, leaving it close enough for an easy tap-in birdie that sealed both victories. It marked the Fireballs’ sixth LIV Golf team title and their second consecutive win after triumphing in Adelaide.

Reflecting on the success, Garcia praised his teammates, including Abraham Ancer, who had won individually the previous week, and fellow Spaniards David Puig and Luis Masaveu. He expressed pride in their collective effort and the unique team dynamic of LIV Golf, which allows him to mentor younger players much like Seve Ballesteros and José María Olazábal did for him in his early years.

Phil Mickelson, who at 54 finished on the podium for the first time as an LIV Golf member, also found encouragement in his performance as he builds momentum for the upcoming Masters Tournament in April. The three-time Masters champion emphasized his steady improvement, noting that he is hitting quality shots and playing well overall.

With an eye on future success, Mickelson remains determined to secure his first LIV Golf win and pursue another major title. The LIV Golf season continues next weekend at Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore, where players will seek to maintain their form and build on their recent performances.
