The search for a new champion of the fourth edition of Scrabble In The Jungle! begins this Friday in Lagos, with six Legacy Keepers vying for the prestigious crown. The competition, known for testing endurance, skill, strategy, and wit, has captured the attention of scrabble enthusiasts across the nation.
Among the six contestants, Khaleel Adedeji and Whiskey Godsfavour, fresh from their performance at the World Scrabble Championships in Ghana, will join Daystar Atti, Salu Samson, Joseph Okere, and Bayo Ahmed in the hunt for the title.
Players will compete for cash prizes, prestige, and honour, all of which are expected to drive fierce and calculated battles on the board during the intense three-day tournament.
The opening day will feature 11 rounds, followed by 15 rounds on the second day, and the final day will host another 10 rounds, including the King of the Hill (KOTH), bringing the total to 36 rounds of high-level competition.
Musa Olasupo, President of Scrabble Las Vegas, congratulated the six participants on their selection, highlighting their impressive track records and expressing confidence in their ability to deliver a thrilling championship.
He emphasized that the Legacy Keepers edition aims to elevate scrabble to a new level, likening it to a bootcamp-style format similar to reality shows like Big Brother, where contestants of comparable skill levels compete in a controlled and intense environment.
The tournament will be officially rated by the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), the Pan-African Scrabble Association (PANASA), and the World English Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), ensuring international recognition and ranking points for the competitors.
