Scottie Scheffler storms back to win second Tour Championship and FedExCup

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler produced a stunning final-round comeback at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday, overturning a three-shot deficit to defeat Viktor Hovland and win the Tour Championship for the second time.

Scheffler carded a four-under-par 66 to finish at 16-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of Hovland. The victory secured his second FedExCup title, following his 2024 triumph, and earned him the $10 million winner’s prize.

The American began the final round three strokes behind Hovland but quickly closed the gap with birdies at the second and fourth holes. Although a bogey at the seventh briefly slowed his momentum, Scheffler responded with another birdie at the eighth before taking control on the back nine.

Scheffler moved into the outright lead with a birdie at the 13th and delivered the decisive blow at the 16th. After finding a bunker, he produced an excellent recovery shot that left him an 11-foot birdie putt, which he converted to open a two-shot advantage.

Hovland, meanwhile, struggled to reproduce the putting form that had helped him shoot a five-under 65 in the third round. The Norwegian finished with a two-over 72 and ended the tournament at 13-under, while Ryan Gerard took third at 12-under.

The triumph was Scheffler’s 22nd PGA Tour victory and his third win of the 2026 season. He also joined Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to win the FedExCup multiple times.

Rory McIlroy, who had surged into contention with a brilliant 63 on Saturday, closed with a one-under 69 to finish tied for fourth at 11-under alongside several other players. Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood ended the tournament tied 11th at 10-under.

Scheffler’s victory also moved him past Tiger Woods to the top of the PGA Tour’s all-time career earnings list, with his $10 million prize taking his career earnings to more than $130 million.
