Scottie Scheffler Returns to CJ Cup Byron Nelson in Search of First Win This Season

Scottie Scheffler has a deep connection to the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, having made his PGA Tour debut at the event when he was just 17 years old. Now, at 28 and ranked as the World No. 1 golfer, Scheffler returns to McKinney, Texas, in search of his first win of the season. Despite having five top-10 finishes this year, including a T5 finish two years ago at TPC Craig Ranch, he is eager to capture the title that holds special meaning for him.

 

Reflecting on his history with the tournament, Scheffler shared that it has always treated him well, adding that his debut at the event during his senior year of high school left him with lasting memories. "It's good to be back," he remarked, clearly appreciating the chance to return to a place where he began his professional journey.

 

Scheffler missed last year’s tournament while waiting for the birth of his son, Bennett, describing that period as a blur. Despite his absence, he is excited to play this year and share the experience with fellow Dallas golfers, Jordan Spieth and Si Woo Kim, who will join him in the same group for the first two rounds. "Playing with Jordan here will be really fun," he said, acknowledging Spieth’s significant impact on the local community both on and off the course.
