Scottie Scheffler Headlines Star-Studded Field for 2025 Scottish Open

Posted : 06 June 2025

World number one Scottie Scheffler has confirmed his participation in the 2025 Scottish Open, set to take place from July 10 to 13 at The Renaissance Club in East Lothian. Scheffler, who recently defended his title at the Memorial Tournament, adds further strength to an already formidable field.

This year’s edition promises to be one of the most competitive ever, with seven of the world’s top 10 players, including the entire top five, using the event as a crucial warm-up ahead of The Open Championship at Royal Portrush the following week.

Scheffler returns to the Scottish Open after securing a tied third-place finish at the same course in 2023. Expressing his excitement, the 28-year-old American remarked on his appreciation for links-style golf, noting the limited opportunities to play on such courses throughout the year. The Renaissance Club’s challenging layout offers players a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their games before heading into one of the sport’s most prestigious majors.

Joining Scheffler in East Lothian will be an elite group of competitors including world number two Rory McIlroy, and fellow Americans Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, and Justin Thomas. Austria’s Sepp Straka and Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg will also feature, contributing to what is likely to be one of the most stacked fields in Scottish Open history.

The participation of the tournament’s last three winners—McIlroy, Schauffele, and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre—further elevates the profile of this year’s event.

MacIntyre, who made history in 2024 by becoming the first Scottish champion since Colin Montgomerie’s win at Loch Lomond in 1999, will look to defend his title in front of a home crowd.

Meanwhile, British fans will have additional local favorites to support, with English major champions Justin Rose and Matt Fitzpatrick aiming to make their mark. With so many high-caliber players in action, the 2025 Scottish Open is shaping up to be a thrilling prelude to The Open Championship.
