Scottie Scheffler Embraces “Home Week” as He Defends CJ Cup Byron Nelson Title

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has returned to familiar surroundings in Texas this week as he looks to defend his title at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in McKinney. The tournament offers a rare “home week” for Scheffler, who lives just a short distance from TPC Craig Ranch.

Last year, Scheffler delivered a dominant performance at the same event, tying the lowest 72-hole score on the PGA Tour and winning by eight shots. The course, located in the Dallas suburbs, has become a comfortable venue for him both competitively and personally.

Coming off a challenging PGA Championship, where he finished well behind winner Aaron Rai, Scheffler welcomed a more relaxed preparation schedule. Time at home, light practice sessions, and participation in Wednesday’s pro-am have helped him reset heading into his title defence.

The two-time major champion said the week has taken on added meaning since the birth of his second child, Remy, in March. He explained that balancing family life with a demanding tour schedule has required adjustments in how he manages his time.

Scheffler noted that he now spends less time at the course than earlier in his career, prioritising family commitments and adapting his routine around his responsibilities as a father. Despite these changes, he believes he has managed to maintain strong form on the course.

His 2026 season has already featured consistent results, including a victory in California and multiple runner-up finishes, as well as a strong showing at the Masters. He has remained one of the most consistent performers on tour, with several top-25 finishes already this year.

Although he struggled with his putting at Aronimink, Scheffler remains confident in his overall game. He believes returning to familiar greens in Texas provides an opportunity to reset and refine his putting approach.

He added that the course has changed slightly since his previous win, with more challenging greens now in play. However, he still views it as a setup that suits his strengths from tee to green as he aims for another victory on home soil.
