Scotland Eye First Six Nations Title After Stunning Win Over France

Posted : 09 March 2026

Scotland have positioned themselves for a historic first Six Nations title following a sensational 50-40 victory over France. The thrilling encounter at Murrayfield saw the Scots score seven tries on a sunlit afternoon, leaving the 2026 championship wide open with just one round remaining.

The win marks Scotland’s best chance at the Six Nations crown since their last Five Nations triumph in 1999. A bonus-point victory over Ireland in the final round would give them the strongest claim to the title. Former Scotland international Johnnie Beattie praised the team’s performance, highlighting their dominance across the game and the pressure they applied on the French side. “Fifty points against France is unheard of – they were brutal,” Beattie said on the Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

Despite the euphoria, challenges remain. Scotland have struggled historically against Ireland, with coach Gregor Townsend yet to secure a win over the Irish. Their last victory on Irish soil came in 2010 with a narrow 23-20 win at Croke Park. As Scotland prepare for a decisive clash against Ireland, they must maintain their momentum to achieve an unprecedented Six Nations title.
