Scheffler, Schauffele, and McIlroy Named 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year Nominees

Posted : 26 November 2024

Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and Rory McIlroy were announced as the nominees for the 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year award on Monday. The prestigious awards, including the Jack Nicklaus Award for Player of the Year and the Arnold Palmer Award for PGA Rookie of the Year, will be decided by PGA Tour members, with voting concluding on December 4 and winners revealed by the end of the year.

For the Player of the Year category, Scheffler and Schauffele are seen as frontrunners. Scheffler’s impressive season included winning Olympic gold in Paris and securing seven PGA Tour titles, including his second Masters victory in three years.

Additionally, he claimed major wins at The Players Championship, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Heritage and Memorial tournaments, while also capturing the FedEx Cup. Scheffler dominated the season as the money leader and earned the Byron Nelson Award with an average score of 68.645.

Schauffele, also a strong contender, achieved his first two major titles, winning both the PGA Championship and the British Open. The 31-year-old finished second in scoring average, with an impressive 69.137, and recorded 15 top-10 finishes without missing a cut. His consistency throughout the season has made him one of the top players in the running for the award.

Meanwhile, McIlroy had a notable season, securing a victory at the Zurich Classic alongside Shane Lowry and winning the Wells Fargo Championship for the fourth time. The 35-year-old Northern Irish golfer also finished second at the US Open, narrowly missing his fifth major title. With 15 top-10 finishes and no missed cuts, McIlroy’s steady performances place him firmly in contention for Player of the Year honours.
