Scheffler Chases Leader Kohles as 3M Open Round 2 Gets Underway

The second round of the 2026 3M Open is underway at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota, with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler aiming to close the gap on leader Ben Kohles as players battle for places heading into the weekend.

Kohles holds the outright lead after producing a superb opening-round 9-under-par 62. His impressive round included an eagle at the 18th hole, giving him a two-shot advantage over Emiliano Grillo, Jackson Koivun and Gary Woodland, who share second place on 7-under.

Scheffler begins Friday at 6-under, three strokes behind the leader after a strong first-round performance that showed signs of improvement following his putting struggles at The Open Championship. The tournament favourite is looking to build on his recent form after finishing tied for fourth in the season's final major.

The American tees off at 1:44 p.m. ET from the first hole alongside Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and South Korea's Sungjae Im in one of the marquee groups of the afternoon session.

Several other high-profile groups are also scheduled to start from the first tee. Jake Knapp, Corey Conners and Max Homa begin their rounds at 1:33 p.m. ET, while Brian Harman, Lucas Glover and Steven Fisk follow at 1:55 p.m. ET. Matthieu Pavon, Nick Hardy and Keith Mitchell complete another notable pairing with a 2:06 p.m. ET tee time.

Friday's conditions are expected to provide the toughest test of the week. Sunny skies and temperatures around 83 degrees Fahrenheit are forecast, but southwest winds between 10 and 20 mph, with stronger gusts, could make club selection and approach shots more challenging on the exposed layout at TPC Twin Cities.

Despite the increased breeze, the course has remained soft and receptive following recent weather, creating favourable scoring conditions for much of the field. Players who successfully manage the wind are expected to continue producing low rounds.

The projected cut line is currently around 4-under par, meaning the battle to secure a place among the top 65 players and ties will intensify throughout the day. Several players sitting near the cut mark will need strong finishes to extend their tournaments into the weekend.

Fans can follow the action live throughout the day on PGA Tour Live via ESPN+, which provides featured group and featured hole coverage from the morning until the evening. Television coverage begins on Golf Channel at 4:00 p.m. ET before post-round analysis on Golf Central once play concludes.

With favourable scoring conditions and several of the world's leading golfers still within striking distance, Round 2 is expected to play a major role in shaping the leaderboard ahead of Moving Day on Saturday.
