Ronnie O'Sullivan Breaks Snooker Record with Historic 153 at World Open

Posted : 20 March 2026

Ronnie O'Sullivan made snooker history by achieving the highest-ever professional break of 153 during the World Open in Yushan. The seven-time world champion accomplished this feat in the opening frame of his quarter-final against Ryan Day, setting the tone for a commanding 5-0 victory.

The 50-year-old began the frame by leaving Day snookered, forcing a misstep that allowed O'Sullivan a free ball. He then potted the green as the 16th red, followed by the opening black, before successfully sinking 15 more reds with 13 blacks and two pinks. He cleared the final six colors to complete the record-breaking 153 break.

This new high surpasses the previous professional record of 148, set by Jamie Burnett during the UK Championship qualifiers in 2004. Reflecting on the moment, O'Sullivan expressed gratitude to his supporters in a video on X, saying, "It was a pretty cool moment, really happy to do it. Thank you to everyone out there that has supported me."

Following this historic performance, O'Sullivan will advance to the semi-finals, where he is set to face China's Wu Yize, who defeated Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen 5-1 to reach the same stage.
