Road to China 2026: Nigeria Draws Tough Group in African Sitting Volleyball Championship

Posted : 17 June 2025

Team Nigeria is gearing up for a challenging campaign at the 2025 African Sitting Volleyball Zonal Championship, set to take place from July 1 to 10 in Nairobi, Kenya. The tournament will serve as a qualifying event for the 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Hangzhou, China.

The Nigeria Sitting Volleyball Federation has confirmed its participation in the men's championship, where Nigeria will compete against host nation Kenya, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe. Only the top two teams will secure tickets to represent Africa at the global stage in 2026.

On the women’s side, four countries—Kenya (host), Congo, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe—have confirmed their participation in what promises to be a fiercely competitive contest.

In preparation for the championship, both the men’s and women’s teams will enter a 15-day residential training camp designed to enhance team chemistry and sharpen competitive edge. The camp will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, with daily training sessions at the NPC Indoor Gymnasium from Monday to Friday.

“This championship is a key opportunity for our athletes to showcase their abilities on the continental stage and earn their place in the World Championships,” said an official from the Nigeria Sitting Volleyball Federation.

The 2026 Sitting Volleyball World Championships are scheduled to take place from July 10 to 17 in Hangzhou, China. Expectations are high as Team Nigeria sets its sights on securing qualification and making a strong impression on the world stage.
