Remco Evenepoel Wins Quebec GP Ahead of World Championships

Belgian Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel continued his impressive form by winning the Grand Prix Cycliste de Québec, strengthening his preparations for the upcoming World Championships in Montreal. The victory came in his first race since his triumph at the Clásica San Sebastián in August.

Evenepoel emerged from an aggressive finale alongside Italy's Giulio Ciccone, with the pair breaking clear late in the 206km Canadian classic. The Belgian then produced the stronger sprint to claim the victory, with Denmark's Anthon Charmig taking third.

Tom Pidcock finished fourth ahead of American Quinn Simmons, while Australian Michael Matthews, a three-time winner of the Quebec race, placed sixth. The result highlighted the strength of a field packed with riders preparing for the World Championships.

The victory adds another major one-day success to Evenepoel's 2026 season. He has already won the Amstel Gold Race and Clásica San Sebastián, while also finishing second to Tadej Pogačar at the Tour de France.

Evenepoel has now turned his attention toward the World Championships in Montreal, where he will attempt to defend his individual time-trial title before targeting the road race. With Pogačar absent through injury, the Belgian is among the leading contenders for the rainbow jersey.

The Canadian races are particularly significant because Sunday's Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal will use terrain closely linked to the World Championship course. Evenepoel's strong showing in Quebec therefore provides an early indication of his condition heading into the biggest races of his season.

Evenepoel will also have strong Belgian support in Montreal, with Wout van Aert set to join him as one of the team's key leaders. Belgium's selection has been built around the pair as the country targets success in the elite men's road race.
